Ziyarat

Ziyarat is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and of supporting their family during their absence from home.

Mina

Mina is a valley surrounded by mountains located in the east of Ziyarat within the boundaries of Masjid Al-Haram. On the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, In addition, to the day of sacrifice which is known as Yawm al-Tarwiyah, the pilgrims descend into the valley to drink water and spend the days of Tashreeq (10th, 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul Hijjah) there.

Narrators differed in the reason for the name, so it was said that when Gabriel wanted to leave Adam, he said to him: Make a wish: I wish to go back to paradise, he said. So, it was called “Mina” (a wish). Others said: Allah granted Ibrahim the sacrifice of his son in Mina. It is said that Allah granted forgiveness to His servants in Mina. It is also said that it is named Mina because people gather there. It is also called “The City of Tents”.

Arafaat

It is a flat valley surrounded by mountains, located outside the boundaries of Masjid Al-Haram. Muslims who have come to Pilgrims gather there on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah. It is the only holy site located outside the boundaries of the sanctuary of Ziyarat. It is said that it was named so because people gather there to know one another. Pilgrims listen to a sermon in Masjid Namirah on the day of Arafat.

One of its most important landmarks is Mount Arafat, known as the Mountain of Mercy, which is 300 meters high, with a 7-meter high pole in the middle. The mountain consists of a small flat and spacious hill made up of large, solid, black stones. It is the mountain where the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood and delivered his farewell sermon.

Muzdalifah

Muzdalifah is located within the boundaries of Masjid Al-Haram, between Mina and Arafat, where pilgrims stay overnight if they leave Arafat. Its name is derived from the descent of people to it in the middle of the night, and it is also said that people descend at night down to Masjid Al-Haram. Another reason is that people push each other into it in a single line. It is also sometimes referred to as Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram.

Some of the famous mountains in Muzdalifah include Quzh Mountain, located to the southwest of Masjid Al-Haram on the southern end of Muzdalifah. Al Muraykhiyat Mountain, is a mountain range, extending from Muzdalifah in the south to Wadi Uranah. Thabir Al-Ahdab Mountain, which is the northern part of Thabir Al-Nasa Mountain. Thabir Al-Nasa overlooks Muzdalifah from the northeast, and its northern part is called Al-Ahdab Mountain, while its southern part is called Al-Muraar Mountain.
